I have just discovered a TATTERS connection in my husband's family tree. Two of this g-g-g-g-grandparents were Edward WHITFIELD and Hannah TATTERS who married at Alston on 4 October 1798. I looked in IGI for christenings of Hannah TATTERS and found no less than four contenders: Hannah TATTERS dau of William and Isabel TATTERS, ch 24 June 1773; Hannah TATTERS, dau of James TATTERS, ch 17 July 1774; Hannah TATTERS, daughter of Hannah TATTERS (no father given) ch 26 Sept 1778; and Hannah TATTERS, dau of Richard TATTERS, ch 3 Nov 1782. I wonder if these Hannahs are linked to the marriage of William TATTERS to Hannah MARTINDALE .at Alston on 11 Oct 1746? My gut instinct re my husband's ancestor is that she was the apparently illegitimate Hannah christened in 1778 as, assuming the christening followed fairly soon after the birth, she would have been a nice, conventional age 21 at marriage.
Does anyone else have any knowledge of these TATTERS? I'd love to hear from you either through the board or personally.
