According to the obituary of John M. Tatom (b. Lincoln Co., GA Nov. 30, 1804 d. Union Co., AR May 4, 1868, he had married Francis D. Hicks in Monroe Co., GA in 1827. This John was the son of Isaac and Mary Jane Stinson Tatom, who was the son of Abel Tatom. John had a brother, named Abel, who submitted the obit in 1868, and was married to Rebecca Stokes. John and Mary moved from Monroe to Upson, then Troup, where they were in the 1840 census, then to Union Co. AR by 1850. John M. Tatom is also related to the John Hicks, Jr. who married Martha Hicks in Granville Co., NC in 1782.
Considering when and where John M. Tatom and Francis Hicks were married, I suspect that Francis was the daughter of one of the sons of David Hicks and Mary Johnson Hicks. This line tended to name for ancestors, and could be that Francis was named for her grandmother (David Hicks' parents were Samuel and Frances/Francis Wyatt Hicks). Would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows more about this John M. Tatom and Francis D. Hicks.
My interest is that her husband, John M. Tatom, was an appraiser of the Thomas Hicks estate (d. Greene Co., GA c. 1829, was integrally involved in the care of the Thomas Hicks orphans, and was involved in the Judith Hicks estate (d. Monroe Co., GA c. 1830). Identifying Francis Hicks may help me determine the Thomas Hicks ancestry.
