NOTES for George McDaniel Tatum/Tatom: Civil War, Pvt.. C. C. 5th Cav., 63rd Regt. NC Troops. His horse collapsed and died from exposure while on Campaign into Maryland, Jan/Feb of 1864. He received $200 compensation from the government.

He was a farmer and had a plantation home which is, or was, owned by Senator Lauch Faircloth. I (mdianneschell) visited the property about five years ago. You can still see an indentation in the ground where the house once stood, and there is also an indentation next to the house of the family cemetery. There are no tombstones, or markers for the family, so we have a Civil War vet, and it’s pretty certain a Revolutionary War vet with no markers or tombstones either.
