I have been researching our Tarver line for several years and haven't gotten very far at all. This following is the information I have.
Henry Tarver was born in either NC, SC, or Georgia (his daughter's census states different states depending on the census year). He was born in 1796. Unknown wife. In the 1850 census, Henry was listed living in Pulaski, GA in Division 69, dwelling 54. Also living with him are his children - Matilda, age 25, Elizabeth, age 21, Martha, age 17, Mary S, age 14, Susan, age 8 (my ggg grandmother), and Benjamin, age 2 months. I assume that Henry's wife probably died in childbirth.
I have found a Henry Tarver in the 1840 Twiggs Co., GA census, district 376, with the correct number and ages of children, plus a few more that might have died before 1850, to match the 1850 census. Also listed on the same census are
William M. Tarver, and Hartwell H. Tarver. There is quite a bit of history on Harwell and his family, and I am thinking that Henry was a brother of William or Hartwell. I'm not sure if Henry is his birth name or middle name. There is also a Henry Tarver in Mascogee GA in 1840.
I have also found a Henry Tarver in the 1821 Georgia Land Lottery, going from Twiggs to Monroe. He is also in the 1827 GA Land Lottery going from Jones to Troup County. There is also a Henry Tarver that was a witness to Absalom Tarvers will on 5 April 1827 in Hancock Co., GA.
In old bible records that I have, it says that Henry Tarver was killed in a very bad tornado that leveled his farm. It was unknown if it also killed any of his children. I have a feeling it did (just a hunch), as I have not been able to locate any of his children or him after 1850, except for my ggg grandmother, Susan Ann Tarver, who ended up in Texas at age 18, and married Thomas Franklin Keenan. I have full notes and photos of her. She lived to a very ripe old age and many children.
I am curious if this Henry might be a son of Absalom & Ursula or of Jacob & Dorthy Dawkins Tarver (or brother).
Any help or information you might have would be very much appreciated.
