I am not 100% certain about James. To be perfectly honest, it is an assumption. We found Lucy in an 1860 census of Limestone County, Texas. She is 12 and there is a Lucy Tarver listed who is 58, but we are not certain if this is her mother or grandmother. We have found a marriage record from 1841 for a James Tarver and Lucy Roberts, so with Lucy's birth being in 1847, we are certain these are her parents.

With regard to Joel Walter Roberts, I have never come across any information saying that he died at the Alamo. I have copies of the Roberts family information from a book titles Falls County History that confirms Joel dying in 1920 at the home of his daughter, Joelena Roberts Cox. Additionally, every source of information and person I have talked to list Joel's wifes as follows:
1. Elizabeth Catherine Maulding (m. about 1859)
2. Lucy Lelia Tarver (m. 27 Dec 1865)
3. Laura Livingston Brusenham (m. 2 Oct 1888)

My great-grandmother, Pope Ennis Roberts, was born in January 1888 and Lucy is listed as having died in 1888, so I am under the impression that she died during or as a result of child birth. Hope this helps.
