Hi! I have been trying to do as much of my research for free as possible. I guess to really find out when this Frederick came I will have to pay for info. According to what I found about this particular Fred, though, has him born in Paris. I do think that originally all of the Tartters were from Bavaria or Alsace-Lorraine. There seems to have been a pre-Franco-Prussian War exodus from Germany. Citizens of Alsace-Lorraine were given a choice to either leave & become French citizens, or stay & be German citizens. Also, it seems that people left Germany, France, & other nearby countries through LeHavre or other French ports. So it would look like they were coming FROM France, when actually they were coming FROM Germany THROUGH France. Anyway, I'm taking a little rest from my searching. Was up till 5 AM Saturday (ugh!) after hitting a major break-through on another line coming in to my Tartters on ancestry.com.uk. Took me back to Sherwood Forest, Nottingham early 1500's. What a blast! : ) Daunting task, however!
