Hello Madelyn:
Nice to 'hear' from you.My records of Merrill J. Tarter, my great-grandfather, are rather skimpy.Apparently, Merrill was born in 1847 in Russell Co., KY but I don't know when he died.He was married to Nancy Stanton, born in 1848; don't know where she was born or when she died.Merrill was the son of Squire T. Tarter and Polly
Turpin and had the following brothers and sisters: Christian A, Samuel W., Milford, John P, wesleyM, Joel, Julia, and Terrell.Merrill and Nancy had the following children: Christley, Samuel A, Sarah E, Mary L, Squire B, Hetty, and William V (my grandfather).Perhaps one of these ladies were 'ancestors' to your mother.
I have traced the Tarter name back eight generations from me; to Johannes Anton Dotter (perhaps changed to Darter or Tarter upon immigration from Luback, Germany), who was married three times.I am descended from Johannes and his wife Elizabeth Kurtz and their son, Balzer Tarter, born in 1750 in PA.
If you have more information on Merrill J. or other members of that family, I would appreciate your sharing that.
Thank you.
Ralph Tarter
