Fingers crossed but...
The first page of the diary, dated 13th March 1853 reads: - "Called at Mt Zion chapel to take farewell of my class - who had assembled for their morning lessons. Left Northampton Station at 1/2 past 10 a.m. Arrived at Liverpool (150 miles) at 8 p.m. Slept the night at Dick's coffee house - for which we paid 6/6"
This all sounds a bit too northern to be of use to you.
The only note in the book(apart from Australian ones)is that Joseph was the son of Henry and Elizabeth of Derngate Nothampton. Joseph married Penelope Sharp of Northampton where they were married at St Giles - probably not yours.
