Hello Gillian. I am from the United States, but we have some similarities in our back grounds which I noticed when I saw your message of January 27, 2002. My great grandfather was named Joseph Tarry and his father was Samuel Tarry, born in 1806 in Virginia, USA. His father was also named Samuel Tarry, born in Virginia abt 1765, his father before him was also Samuel Tarry born 1716 in London, Middlesex County. This Tarry was a tobacco merchant, the youngest of that family, who went to Virginia to buy tobacco for his father's shop on Whitecross street in London. His father was George Tarry, b 1679. We were in London in 1998 and happened to be in that section of London and saw that Whitecross St. which had it attached to a building there. You don't suppose there is any connection between these Tarrys or is it just a happy coincidence? Just thought I'd mention it to you and see what you think. It seems like the name Joseph & Samuel might run in the family.
