John Tarr b. 12 april 1790 of Fayette County PA died december 1858 in
Marshal County West Virginia. Married Elizabeth Dec 1858.
His father is John Tarr b. 1759, d. 1826 married to Molly Sturgis. This
"John" born in Worcester Maryland moved his family to Pennsylvania and
then to West Virginia. John had a brother Charles b. 1761 in Worcester
d.1836 I believe that the Tarrs in West Virginia are from siblings of
John and Charles.
His grandfather is John Tarr b. abt 1731 in Worcester Maryland. Married
to Elizabeth Bennet. This "John" has 3 sisters.
Tabitha abt 1725. Ester abt 1727, Mary abt 1729
Great Grandfather is another "John" b. abt 1684, Worcester MD, he
marries Mary Webb abt 1709. Mary was born abt 1694. This "John" has at
least 2 brothers, Samuel b. 1675, d. 1741, married may 11 1741 and
Michael b. abt 1682, d 1751 in Worcester, Michel married Sarah b before
The Great-Great Grandfather is John Tarr, b. abt 1654 in Accomac
Virginia, resides is Worcester, Somerset County MD. Dies in 1695.
Worcester is above the District of Coulumbia on the Potomac river the
opposite bank being Accomac Virginia. He is married twice, the first to
Tabitha Watts in 1680, this is your ancestor. Tabithas father John Watts
was born in Accomac VA abt 1626 and dies 4 June 1684.
Second wife is "Mary widow of..." he marries her before 1690 and she was
born before 1658. Not much information but it does appear to be a late
marriage with no record of children.
I find one son of John "1790" named Nathaniel B., b. 1817 in Worcester
MD, son of John and Elizabeth. He marries Agness J. Wellman on Aug 8,
1841. Agness was born before 1824 and is "of" Accomac VA.
Three children from Nathaniel and Agness are John R. Tarr b. 1849
Accomac, David P Tarr b. 1857 Accomac, and Joshua Tarr b. 1858 in
Accomac, Joshua was married in 1880.
These Tarrs are the easiest to document than any other branches, I
believe that my branch comes through Samuel son of John and Tabitha. But
the last proveable link is from Levi Tarr born 1790 in Philidelphia PA,
his brother Joseph born in Worcester Maryland.
It appears that several branches of Tarrs, notibly the Tarrs of Glouster
MA and Maine are not connected to those in VA and MD.
All of the information that I am sending was retrieved from the Mormon
records that are now available on line.
