Jack (John) Bernard Tarr - Altoona/Kittanning, PA; Oregon; WWI
Quick question from a stray Tarr… My grandfather has told me his dad was Jack (John) Bernard Tarr, and gave me the following info:
My father was Jack Tarr. His family emigrated to the U.S. from northern Germany, now part of Poland. They settled in Altoona, Pa. My father left school after eighth grade to become a riveter in the Penna. RR shops in Altoona. He was drafted in 1917 and sent to Vancouver, Wash across the river from Portland, where he met my mother. Jack married Rose Richanbach in l921. I believe they settled in Portland. Jack was killed in an (railroad) accident in l945.
I've tried hard to trace him back, and did find a WWI draft card from Kittanning, PA that seems promising. That John Bernard Tarr was born June 21, 1899, and listed Victor Charles Tarr as his "Closest Relative".
Victor was drafted at the same time, I think he died in the war. Victor listed his dad John A. Tarr as his "Closest Relative", the family was in Kittanning for the 1910 census, and listed his wife Martha, their son John A. Jr, Victor, Cecillia, and Sarah Scott and Frank Scott (step-children) are all there. However, John Bernard is not a member of their household.
The only other John Tarr reference in Pennsylvania I've managed to find is a 12yr old living with his Grandmother Amanda J. Tarr b.1843, and a 13yr old named Daniel, I assume is his brother. I have no idea if this is him, many John Tarr’s in PA as we know.
Any help greatly appreciated, please email me at [email protected]’ll post if I get any new info
THANKS!!
