Sarah / Edward Tarpy - Huddersfield
Posted by: Robert Kaye (ID *****0660) Date: September 30, 2003 at 12:24:05

Does anyone have any information on either Sarah or Edward Tarpy (possibly Tarpey) of Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England?

My ancestor Sarah TARPY was born abt 1845 - in Huddersfield according to the census, but this could be wrong. She married Peter GALVIN in 1864 - the certificate has her name as TARPEY, but she gives her name as TARPY on her children's birth certificates.

She names her father as Edward TARPY (deceased) on her 1864 marriage certificate. I have no date of birth and don't know where he was born - probably West Riding of Yorkshire.

Because the man she married was a member of Huddersfield's Irish communnity, it is possible that Edward Tarpey had recently come over from Ireland.

It is also just possible that she is the child b. and registered in 1845 as Sarah TARP, to Mary TARP (no father named).

Any information or suggestions gratefully received!
