Tarpy/Torpey
I'm looking for siblings of my grandfather, Thomas Torpey.Their names are James, Mary and Anna Torpey.Of course, the name was Tarpy, but has been Torpey since Thomas came here.According to the 1900 census, he arrived here in 1884.I believe he traveled with his brother, James.I've always been told that at least one sister precededhim.Thomas was born 12/6/1863, James on 5/21/1856, Anna on 6/16/1859, and Mary on 6/13/1862.Their parents were Thomas and Mary (Flannery) Tarpy. They moved from Ireland to Nottingham, England, before the births of their children, or they may have met and married in England. For a long time, my grandfather claimed to anyone outside the family that he was born in Ireland, so his siblings may have done the same.Thomas met and married Bridget Riley in Philadelphia in 1893, where Bridget was born.I think I've found Thomas in the 1888 Gloucester City Directory. He was living in Gloucester but was working in Philadelphia.By 1897, he was living in Camden but still working in Philadelphia.By 1900 he was both living and working on this side of the river. If anyone has any info on any of these folks, I'd love to hear from you.
