Hi Kaye Van Fleet,
Most Tarpleys or Shraders who have been given the name "Lake" are descendants of Joseph Bell Tarpley and George Anna Lake Lake Newton Shrader, who married in 1846 in Yabolusha Co. TN and before 1866 were in Collin County, TX. They both died in Bowie, Montague County, TX. Many descendants of this family are named Lake down to this day, some with other surnames.

Please let me know if your get an answer to this as I would also like to know. By the 1900s, some family members had drifted back to the East, obviously. I would like to know your Tarpley connections. Me: Frances M. Muller; d/o Everal Tarpley Miers; d/o Sterling Francis Tarpley; s/o Sterling Lake Tarpley & Mary Frances Shrader; s/o Joseph Bell Tarpley & George Anna Lake/Lake/Newton; s/o Sterling Tarpley & Lucretia Pettypool (who both died in TN in 1845 & 1857).

We have a "Tarpleys in the USA" which is a private site where you can ask questions, add any photos, share Bible info. etc. Would you like me to add your name? Contact me at
