Harburd Tarpley-Colin Tarpley
A branch of the Tarpley family lived in Tennessee and Kentucky before ending up in Texas.I am trying to discover more about them, and especially their connection to Colin S. Tarpley of Mississippi, 1802-1860.
Harburd/Hubbard/Harbert Tarpley was born in Virginia in 1790; he married Elizabeth Kettering or Catron of Sumner County, Tenn., in 1817.By 1833 they are in Hickman County, Ky.There he died in 1850, leaving surviving children of Martha Tarpley (Mrs. Jaspar) Ray; Andalina Tarpley (Mrs. John) Elliott; Catherine Tarpley (Mrs. Isaac) Batts; William Tarpley (1825-1896); Elvina Tarpley (Mrs. John) Ridge; Henry Tarpley; and Thomas Catron Tarpley (1836-1850).
His son Henry (b. 1832 in Tenn, died 1922 in Water Valley, Ky), married Adeline Bennett in 1855.Their children were Laura Elizabeth (1859-1929); Mollie Ida (1861-1938); Martha Etta (1866-1932); Harburd E. (1869-1939); Silas Eugene (1871-1949); and Robert Fulton (1874- 1941).
Harburd E. (1869-1939), moved to Arlington, Texas in 1900, married Rennie Mae Short, daughter of John E. and Rebecca (Goodwin) Short, in 1909 (his second wife).Their children were Ruth Tarpley Southwick (1910-1999); Robert Earl; Harburd Everitt, Richard H. (1920- ); Rennie Mae Tarpley Bormann (1922- ).
Does any one know more about the first Harburd Tarpley, born in Virginia in 1790, such as his parents, and who was the common ancester of this branch of the family and that of Colin S. Tarpley?
