I have just visited Westport and met Thomas Tarmey aged 59 who lives there. I believe that he and I share a common great great grandfather. But I need to establish the name of his great grandfather who I believe to be Patrick Tarmey who is one of three sons of John Tarmey.

Where you seem to fit in is that Thomas' grand father was also a Tom and an army champion boxer while serving in the Indian army. When he returned to Westport he had a barbers shop and is still remembered there by the older generation. He lived from 1875 to 4 Nov 1945. He married Bridget Hynes who died 28 May 1966.

They had lots of children: Rita, Agnes, John (Tom' Dad) Michael, Martin,

I think his sister was Katherine (maiden: Tarmey) Lefebvre to whom you refer as your great grand mother.

Do you know the name of Katherine’s Father and mother - were they Patrick Tarmey and Catherine Mary McNulty and if so do you have any dates for them? Finally do you know if Patrick’s their parents were John Tarmey and Maria Kean?

I live in England.

Chris Tarmey
