My g-g grandfather was Alexander C. Tarlton, born in Wayne County in 1828, and believed to be a brother to John born in 1826.John and a George W.Tarlton and Lewis Tarlton, believed to be brothers of Alexander, registered for the union army in Greenville, Wayne County, Mo. Alexander was murdered by southern guerillas in his home in 1864 in Wayne County.Family oral history says they born on the old family plantation , about 4 and one half miles ne of Wappapello in Wayne County.I have no record of their parents and other siblings and have been searching for some time.
George W.Tarlton had a son he named George W., as did Alexander. IF the father of the three brothers was also a George Washington Tarlton, it is easy to see where he might get a nickname of "General" Tarlton.
Do you think these are your Tarltons?Keith
