My apologies for responding so many years later. I am still seeking information about African American Tarletons in South Carolina. The 1870 census shows a Gadson Tarleton. There are six unbroken male generations of Tarletons to date. The name Gadson repeats in this family over and over again. The oral history of the family says that Banastre Tarleton consorted with a Native American woman who bore the first Gadson Tarleton. Any history about the topic would be greatly appreciated.
