Hello everyone! My name is Rebecca Tapley and I'm glad to find this forum. The Tapley branch of my family tree is a blank one, and we've always known there was some sad story involved, but we have no facts. Maybe someone else on this forum knows what happened. My grandfather David Austin Tapley was born near Hannibal, Missouri. His parents were Charles Austin Tapley and Anna Mae Springstead, and they both died during or soon after the flu epidemic of 1915. Supposedly, Charles had a large family in the Hannibal area and either he and his brother, or two of his brothers, owned a store or business together. But when Charles and Anna Mae died, no one in the family took my grandfather in and he was put into foster care. My grandfather had one older sister but I can't remember her name; she was married at the time my great-grandparents died but her husband wouldn't permit my grandfather to live with them. If ANY part of this story sounds familiar, please email me and let me know. Thanks, Rebecca
