See Tant Origins

Via IGI I have traced it to Harborough Magna and Wyken, both to east of Coventry with substantial entries from about 1560 to 1650s.

So far I have not found any significant European records, although there seems to be a general legend of such origins.

No one has yet come up with any hard data to substantiate Europens, particularly French suggestions.
