Hi Margot,
I was looking at a book about Grandfield, Tillman Co., OK titled "Grandfield, the Hub of the Big Pasture". I found stories about a Rev. Andrew Jackson TANT.
According to the book, Rev. TANT was ordained by the Good Springs Baptist Church of Alabama, the third sunday of July, 1873. He was pastor at Flintville, TN in 1874-75; in Rockmart, GA in 1876; in Cedartown, GA in 1888; in Colorado City, TX; Vernon, TX; & other places in TX before going to OK.
Rev. TANT was a graduate of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary at Louisville, KY. He was one of the first members of the Board of Trustees of Howard-Payne college in Brownwood, TX.
Rev. TANT moved his family to "The Big Pasture" from Waco, TX in Aug 1907. The book never gives the name of Rev. TANT's wife. It simply refers to her as Mrs. A. J. TANT. The TANTS had at least four children; Spurgeon, Dave, Blanche, & Lenna Belle.
He purchased land & divided it up, offering free lots to anyone who would move their business or family there.
He organized the first Baptist church in Grandfield & became it's first pastor. He remained pastor until his death in 1913. Rev. TANT was born 6 Oct 1855 in Acworth, Cobb Co., GA & died of liver cancer on 24 Oct 1913 in St. Joseph's Infirmary in Ft. Worth, Tarrant Co., TX.
Rev. TANT was a Mason & was laid to rest with Masonic honors.
I don't know if this TANT is related to your TANT but the similarities are remarkable.
My grandfather, Dallas D. DOWNS & family, lived in Grandfield where he was a carpenter & helped to build the first high school in Grandfield.
