Richard, I'm not sure if there is a connection but the Tannehill name is not that common. I did get a response from the widow of James E. Tannehill (the son of my Aunt Carrie) and she verified the information shown for the four children. I reached her by just mailing a letter to a Tannehill in McAlester--not on the Web. She is beginning to work on genealogy and hopefully will provide me with info on the Tannehill line in the next month or so. She said there used to be a place outside of McAlester called Tannehill Prairie and is now just called Tannehill. There's a store, school, church and cemetery and I believe she said a museum. I don't know about the Self from Poteau, OK. Mine originally came from Kentucky in about 1905 to OK. Maybe some of this will ring a bell with your grandmother. Let me know if it does. My direct e-mail address is
Glad you sent the note. Joan
