Richard E Hale was my grandfather. He was born in Laurel KY in 1869. His mother was Anna Eliza Tankersly. She was born in Carroll TN in 1837. Anna's parents were John M. Tankersley and Fannie Boyd.
My mother, daughter of Richard E Hale wrote the following in about 1975. She was just recalling what she was told as a child. I would like to confirm or reject the Indian ancestor.
My Grandmother Hale's maiden name was Tanksly and she was of Irish descent. Her ancestors must have come to the colonies in an early date for her great great grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee Indian.
Her husband , Thomas Richard Hale was born July 11, 1830.
