Thought I'd repost and add more info.
Grandfather, Frederick Augustus Tanger, born 1863, Sweden; parents, John and Sophi, both born and died in Sweden. Some of the following is from family stories: Frederick came to US in 1877, might have been in Delphi, or Delfa, Muncie, Lafayette, IN, Jolie, Paxton, IL, dynamiting in mines - before going to North Dakota; sister's son: George Magnuson, lived in Paxton, IL; brother Charlie Tanger died in IN or IL; George and Albert Magnuson were cousins. Frederick told story that his name was changed in Sweden - might have been changed to a military name (to Tanger)
Frederick married in ND, raised 7 sons and moved to California in 1925
This man has baffled me!
