Bea, I was neither offering advice or attempting to criticize you or anyone else. I am not an expert on the matter nor do I profess to be. I was attempting to join in on the conversation and responding to David Batlle's 1/21/01 inquiery as to whether Tamez was a Jewesh name. My own research has been limited and and I envy your own thoroughness. I have only traced my GreatGF back to NL Mexico. As for my statement "one must keep an open mind", I was only commenting on the fact that in this type of research anything is possible. I agree that Tamez in all likelyhood has its roots in Spain, and is it a true Jewish name?, probalby not. But as David has found Tamez amoung other names could possibly been adopted by Jews when they immigrated to Spain. In searching for their roots many people not only are researching their family history but some ask the question, What does my name mean? That was the basis of my statement that Tamez may be of Middle easter origin, in that it may have its root meaning in an Arabic word or term, as I have learned in reading of the Moors several hundred year rule of Spain. I am not attempting to argue a point, only attempting to share information and learn what I can from others concerning my heritage. I hope this clears the air and look forward to hearing from you and learning of your Tamez line.
