Hello J Carlos,
I noticed that you're doing research in Villa de Santiago and planning a trip there. I'd be very interested in your experience. I am trying to track down information about my Mexican family. My grandmother was Maria Concepcion Saldivar, originally from Monterrey but then San Antonio. She was born 1897. Her parents were Manuel Saldivar of Monterrey and Rafaela Garza of Villa de Santiago.
Rafael's parents were Uvaldo Garza and Francisca Garza.Manuel seems to have been much older than Rafaela. My mother has always said we were Basque or French. I'm not sure on which side. But I've been skeptical.
If you have or find any information about this line I would be really grateful to hear from you.
Also, something odd I just noticed; I have a document from the 50s that gives the information above as being in Libro uno del Registrado Civil... and that 50's document is signed by Dr. Ramiro Tamez. Small world?
I'd also really like to know what happened to my ggrandfather Manuel Saldivar. Mis tios say that he was shot in the Revolution because he wouldn't sign over property. That event seems to be the impetus for the family leaving Monterrey and moving to San Antonio. I know his son, my g-uncle, also Manuel was a captain in the calvary fighting for Carranza.
I guess I really don't know very much and I am wondering what kind of resources are out there to learn. Also, I'm very interested in historical context. I have never found anything that really talked about how the Revolution affected immigration to Texas.
Any help, direction, information, etc that your or anyone else out there might be able to provide would engender my sincere thank!
