I have a Hugh Tallman born abt 1832 in Northern Ireland (possibly Co. Antrim). He had a son John (b. 1858) who had a son James McGill Talman (b.abt 1883).

The family moved to Ayrshire (date unknown)and name is shown as Talman after that time.
