The 1850 census is showing
only one George Talley born 1840 in Indiana. His father was born in Virgina but lived in Tenn.

Susannah 49 f VA
James 18 m VA
Nancey 20 f VA
Martha 15 f TN
Eli 14 m KY
George 10 m IN
Willie 7 m IN
Eliza 5 f IN

There is the possibility that the last name is misspelled (The T read as another letter like L or S or something like that.) and your George W. Talley is on a census that the index can't find.
