Tallents in burke county-north carolina

There are many Tallents living in burke county,n.c. I would like to know if we are related to other Tallents in other areas. My grandfathers name was Conley and he had several siblings but the only one I remember is a brother named Charlie and i believe a sister named May. Also there are Tallants living in catawba county. Could they be related ?
I always wondered why the two different spellings when we all live in the same area.
