I am pretty sure that his Joseph is the son of my gggGrandparents Edward Pennington Talkington and Elizabeth J Bland. Joseph (aug 22 1831-apr 28 1905) married Rebecca Ann Kirk (nov 9 1838-jul 12 1926) in Sebastian Co, AR on Feb 14 1861. Note: I have an alternate birth year for Rebecca of 1831

The following are my notes on this family:
Rebecca and her sister were orphaned at a young age and were raised by the Yadon’s whom he said were wonderful to them. I found a Lucinda Yadon (HoH) and Thomas (HoH) in Sebastion Co in 1860 and Joseph, William C, and Margaret in Crawford Co (Jasper Township) also in 1860. Not sure who adopted them
Joseph's parents came to Hempstead Co, AR in the same wagon train in 1826 (Edward was 18, Elizabeth 14). Joseph was raised in Hempstead Co, then Washington Co (Cane Hill) and then Tomlinson, Scott Co, AR.
1854 - went to CA by Ox team. After brief stint gold mining, worked at freighting in Mariposa & Stockton
1860 - returned to Sebastian Co, AR by stage thru Az, NM & TX & married Rebecca Ann Kirk (whom he’d known as a child in AR)
I have read that his family were Union sympathesizers althoug had lovg lived in the south although his descendant, Craig J Coombs of Palo Alto, CA believes he joined the CSA willingly. I believe that:
1861 - Fought for Union in civil war - Co B/35th Arkansas Infantry
1862 - He and his brothers were conscripted into Confederate army & escaped after their brother Jasper was killed in 1/13/1863. They were shot at when they escaped, John was wounded and died later at home. He lost all of his profits from CA due to civil war.
1878 0- bought land in AR:
Dardanelle, Doc# 22, 79.36 acres, nov 5 1878, 3nw 6n 31w 3 AND 10nw 6n 31w 3
Between 1861 - 1879 they had 8 children (Jeltha Albert, Thomas Edward, Annie Belle, William Elgan, Walter Lee, Lillie May, John Pennington, and Frank Finley (the last two died as infants)
1880 - Center, Sebastian, AR, he’s 48, his wife is 41, 6 kids from 8 mo to 18yrs, following his son Thomas
1889 - moved to Lincoln Co in Washington Territory settling near “Bluestem” with very little. Started farming & buying land (eventually 320 acres of choice land) His son Walter farmed with him and had 480 acres. Article described the modern methods and farm equipment they owned.
1900 - he and his wife (68 and 61) living in Union, Lincoln Co, WA with Walter L, Lillie M. & Wm. His son Thomas is farming next door with his family
They moved closer to town so their younger son wouldn’t have to far to walk to go to school - - Lord’s Valley
After her husband died, Rebecca went to live with her youngest daughter a few miles west of Harrington and them with her daughter (Annie Belle Bumpuss) in Idaho. By the time she was 81, she had 42 grandchildren
As of 1970, Joe and Rebecca had 261 living descendents!
