I think that I can contribute here. As per Neil, William Cleveland Talcott is most likely your man (my 3 gr-grandfather; I'm Charles Talcott Kline, III, ultimately named after WCT's son Charles). He was not only an attorney and publisher, he was also a judge, a temperance advocate, an advocate of phonics-based spelling reform (I have one of his books), and at one point a Universalist preacher who helped found a commune near South Bend around 1845-46. Presumably it was wearing this last hat that he would have been the preacher in question. Seemed like quite a character. (Probably more than you needed to know...)
