My grandfather, William Burnett Talbert, Sr., gave me a book when I was a young teen titled Some Southern Talberts.
The book was written in the early 1970s and gives the origin of the Talbert family as Normandy. We came across the channel with William to conquer England in 1066.

The book also states that the Talbert name was associated with a breed of hunting dog. It also states that the original spelling was Talbot.

My grandfather traced our American ancestor to a Joseph Talbert who settled in Rappahanock County, Virginia in 1710. My branch of the family settled in Edgefield District,SC in the late 1700s.

Roy Talbert
