Hi, I was very happy to come across this message board- thanks to whomever set it up.
My great-grandfather was named Alicides Babilonia Talavera, and he, and his wife who lived next door to him are listed in the 1910 census, Barrio Pueblo Urbano:

130/141 Calle de San Sebastian
Babilonia Talavera, Alcides .......48
Babilonia y Lopez, Maria ...........22
-------------------, Josefa ............19
Lopez y Roman de Babilonia, [Maria] Concepcion Jefe
Babilonia y Lopez- Manuel 18,
                     Eduviges 10,
                     Alcides 7.
[other young children: Adolfo, Tomas, Aurelia, Miguel]

Alcides Sr. had a brother named Manuel, and another named Tomas. I have yet to find out where their mother was born, and if she came from Spain. That they did (at some point) settle on the west side of the island after coming from Spain, which seems to be repeated over and over again in our oral family history.

I also found a Bernadino de Talavera, vecino de la villa de Yaquimo, (near the Gulf of Uraba -- today's Columbia, SA) mentioned in connection with Alonzo de Ojeda expeditions to Columbia and Peru 1499-1502. He appears in the second book of Bartolome De Las Casas' Historia de las Indies, and the account of Talavera dates from 1501.

There are also Mendez, Quinones, Lopez in my family line, names I have seen listed on
Any thoughts, replies concerning the origins of the Talavera family in Spain, would be very appreciated!
Hasta Luego,
