I am desperately trying to find information regarding my maternal grandmother, Mary Tait. I would like to know who her parents were and more information regarding my Scottish roots. According to her second oldest daughter, my Aunty Anne, Grandma Mary was from Portobello, Edinburgh, and that is pretty well all I know about her Scottish roots, except that she had at least one sister named Agnes/Helen/Margaret(?). She left Scotland and sailed aboard the Canadian Pacific ship, Montclare, and landed in Saint John, New Brunswick on March 25th, 1928 (according to the Government of Canada Archives). On September 6th, 1929, my grandmother married a man named Peter Calder Emblau (the last name, as well as Peter's middle name, was misspelled on their marriage license) in Three Hills, Alberta. My mother, Rosemary, was born in Stettler, Alberta about seven months later on April 25th, 1930, which is a secret that was kept hidden very well, indeed! Mary and Peter had three more girls: Anne, Patsy and Frances. Sadly, my Grandma Mary passed away in a Calgary hospital on May 27th, 1942, at the of 33, a little over a month after my mother's twelfth birthday. I also have the death certificate in my possession, but it gives no information as to her parentage. My mother passed away on September 7th, 2003; and because my sisters and I are not very close to her badly fragmented family (except for Aunty Anne, who is now showing signs of dementia), we are running out of reliable resources for information. As the Bible says, "The former things have passed away." If this information rings a bell with anyone, please, please respond to this posting. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
