Tainter history officially updated
I see there are a number of persons who have researched the Tainter/Taynter/Taintor family, but I have also noticed some confusion in placing Tainter names in the prloper location of the family tree.
The definitive Tainter History was published by Dean Willis Tainter in 1859 after much diligent research and letter writing to many Tainters and others.
Many of you have the proper information, but many of you don't and that causes family members to post data which is not correct.
There are two Tainter genealogy books in print. One of these is by Charles M. Taintor who lived in Colchester, Connecticutt and the other is by my great-grandfather, Dean Willis Tainter, who lived in Boston. Dean was employed by the Boston Directory Company. The Charles M. Tainter's book was a start but his facts were wrong from the outset due insufficient scholarship and lack of any real concrete information to use in his research.
Both Charles M. Tainter and Dean Willis Tainter corresponded quite frequently. I have the complete correspondence from Charles M. Tainter and some copies of Dean Tainter's letters.
It was Dean Tainter's desire to publish a combined history of both side the family but was unable wait for Charles M. Tainter's input when it was time to publish when Dean's history was ready to be sent to the printer. In fact, he noted the other Taintor family in his own book with some information corrected. Here's a quotation for Tainter History, published in 1859:
"PEDIGREE OF THE OTHER TAINTOR FAMILY
Descended from Charles Taintor, who was in Coneccticut as early as 1643, and was (tradition says) came from Wales. He was a tgrader to Virginia, and was lost at sea in 1654. Supposed by some to be the father of Joseph Taynter, whi cane over in the Confidence, A.D. 1638.
(A Genealogy of the family is in course of compilation by Charles M. Taintor. Esq. It was the intention of thbise concerned, to have both Genealogies published in the same volume, but havinf disposed of ths farm in Shelburne, Mass., and removed to Colchester, Conn., as this was about goking to press, Mr. Taintor has been unable to devote the necessary time to preparing tha copy; consequently its deferred for awhile.)..."
Charles M. Taintor's family history was not updated and therefore wasn't brought forward other than his original suspect history which is still extant.
Following this short quotation, the other Taintor family is listed in Dean Willis Tainter's book and covers eight generations with about 100 descendants.
If you need any more information about this update or have questions you want answered, please let me know through my e-mail. I will do my best to furnish the corrected information.
