Mary Lou, I haven't seen (or before now heard of) the Montague book. I have extracts from the Torrance book, and I know it to contain errors, although I don't know of any errors about Taggarts or Lacys. No, Carolyn Lacy isn't my ancestress. Mine is Mary Jane Adair, by Rebecca Taggart's second husband, William Adair, whom she married in 1836. I'm interested in the Lacys only insofar as they pertain to when the Taggarts arrived in Illinois. (Also because loose strings intrigue me.) Do you know the titles of the books you refer to, and where they can be consulted --- especially what sources they cite, if any? It has occurred to me that since the Taggarts were Associated Reformed Presbyterians in South Carolina, they plausibly were associated with the Preston A.R.P. church in Illinois. If that church still exists and has membership, baptismal and/or marriage records that far back in time, that could shed some light on this matter. Also, I wonder when John Lacy acquired his farm east of Kaskaskia --- wonder where there might be land records. I live about two hours' drive from Abbeville, and I've searched there for info. The Hopewell A.R.P. no longer exists -- it burned down. I'm told that A.R.P records exist at Erskine College in SC; I haven't been there to search if letters of transfer exist for the Taggarts and Lacys, and what the dates of those letters might be. I think Erskine College is at Ninety Six, not far from Abbeville. I have other ancestors who once lived in Abbeville (also moved to Old Northwest, but not Illinois,) so I have reasons to do research there. If you have other ideas about what a person should be looking for, I'm willing to take a few more shots. I appreciate your help. Thank you. Dave Notify Administrator about this message?
