Taft cemetery in Starksboro Vermont
Posted by: Chuck Taft Date: February 25, 1999 at 18:56:00

There is a small family Taft cemetery on a high knoll in a pasture West of route 116, just north of where route 116 crosses Lewis creek in Starksboro. In plain site from the road at the present time (1962) and contains the following stones, all marble.

A large shaft inscribed, on one side:
"Crispin Taft"
Died June 30, 1868
age 74 years
"They rest from their labours"

On another side:
"Sara"
Wife of Crispin Taft
died March 13,1874
age 77 years

Two very small stones. One marked "Clayton" the other, "Jones"

Two stones on one base marked: "Father" and "Mother"

One larger stone marked:
"Sam Taft"
November 2,1824
March 12,1913

This is inclosed in a good iron fence and there is a pile of brush outside that probably was cut four or five years ago, however, it has grown up again very thick and more than head high. (Dec. 1962)

This information I received from the Vermont Old Cemetery Association.
