Hi Carol,

I have now found John L. Taft in the 1870 census at Norriton (not Norristown, is there a difference?). Here his birthplace is given as Paris (crossed out) and France (written in). In 1880 I also find him at Norriton and he gives his birthplace and that of both parents as France. He is still alive at Norriton in 1900 and here gives his birthplace and those of his parents as Pennsylvania. Quite a muddle! I would suggest that you try and obtain a death record for him. Since he was 80 in 1900, he probably did not live much longer.
