Taft Family Association DNA Project

The Taft Family Association DNA Project is now well under way. Preliminary findings have permitted us to unambiguously define the Y chromosome of the immigrant, Robert[1] Taft of Braintree and Mendon. And, provisionally, we believe that Matthew[1] Taft of Upton was not a close relative, although further tests will be needed to corroborate this.

One mutant marker has also been detected in one line descending from Robert[2] Taft (Robert[1]) and this is currently being investigated in more detail. It may help us to refine our understanding of the numerous posterity of Robert[2].

Anyone interested in participating in this study should contact me for additional details.

Neil B. Todd
