Tafts in IL from NY- HELP Please!

My grandmother's maiden name is Taft (hence my middle name). She was born in 1919 in Oneco, IL. Her father was Benjamin Franklin Taft b. in Oneco, IL in about 1870. His father was Joseph Alonzo Taft b. About 1837 and served with the 46th Il Inf Vols in the Civil War. His father was Benjamin Taft b. About 1810 in New York.

From here I can't seem to find a direct link to the rest of the Taft family. My best guess right now is that Benjamin is the son of Silas Taft b. 1779 in New York. Silas is the son of Silas b. 1744 in MA. Silas is the son of Stephen. Stephen is the son of Benjamin. And Benjamin is the son of Robert.

Silas Taft (b. 1744) seems to be the largest branch of the family to go to New York, and his son Silas (b. 1779) seems to be the only Taft from that branch whose descendants aren't well documented. I can't seem to find records for Benjamin anywhere beyond IL, including NY (and I've been at this for 11 years.)

If anyone can help me establish the relationship between Benjamin (b. 1810) and Silas (b. 1779) please help! It seems to fit chronologically and geographically, I just need it to work genealogically!

Could we be a "Lost Tribe of Tafts?" ;)

Please e-mail me if you have any information and I will be ecstatic to provide any information you may want on the family as well.

Thanks a gazillion. . . :)

Scott
