Hello Mrytle, Okay, went through some paperwork Betty Mae gave me several months ago. Betty Mae Haines is the grand-daughter of Rilford G. and Alice Tadlock. The following text is taken from a letter she wrote to family members. I’ve only typed the portion of the letter that mentions the Colletts. I would be glad to email you a scanned copy of the entire letter if you send me your email address. “Rilford General Tadlock. B 7 Feb. 1858 near Tompkinsville, county seat of Monroe Co., KY. Son of Lewis and Margaret (your great grandfather). 10 years old when Lewis Tadlock died (logging accident). Wagon train to CA. Margaret’s homestead was in RG’s name (mom said he gave it to Elbert, brother, when RG went off on his own) and RG remained with her for some years. About 1868 he purchased 160 acres on the plains, no bldgs or fences, in “primeval condition of nature”. Located 3 ˝ miles south of Madison. Raised grain, later fruit, incl 20 acres vineyard, 12 acres figs, 3 acres assorted fruit. ****1874 m. Alice Grey Collett of Carrol Co., MO. (I think Alice Collett’s mother’s sister, Nan Hickman, married John Tadlock, oldest living son of Lewis and Margaret (at that time) so Alice’s aunt became her sister-in-law????) Mother insists that John Tadlock was already in California which is why Margaret came yet the history books state 4 boys came with M???). Alice came to Calif. at age 13 with parents (I think James & Elizabeth), brother Jim, who married Alice Saling, Aunt Laura who m. Levi Gist, Rene who m. Newt Bickman, Nan who was 3 weeks old, unknown whom she married. The Colletts traveled on one of the early trains when there were no RR bridges so had to cross by other means. She married RG at age 15--- almost 16. RG, a Democrat, later a socialist. Deputy tax assessor 1868, a Mason in Winters, later a charter member in Madison, Christian Church, and a trustee of.” I looked at some other Tadlock information I’ve collected and tried to put 2 and 2 together (don’t know if it’s exactly right but it’s a start). The Federal census reports for 1850 Missouri had the following information. The family names seem to match the ones mentioned in Betty Mae’s letter so maybe these are Elizabeth Hickman’s parents. I talked to the Tadlock nephew and he doesn't have any information for this particulare family line. I haven’t heard back from the niece yet. 1850 Federal census for District 58, Moniteau, Missouri Anthony Hickman 41 – m farmer POB Kentucky Mary Hickman 36 – f POB Kentucky Jesse Hickman 18 – m laborer POB Kentucky Elizabeth Hickman 16 – f POB Kentucky John Hickman 14 – m POB Kentucky Nancy Hickman 12 – f POB Kentucky Sarah Hickman 10 – f POB Kentucky James Hickman 8 – m POB Kentucky Anthony Hickman 4 – m POB Kentucky Mary Hickman 6 months – f POB Missouri I found a link on Ancestry to a Nancy Ann Hickman’s family line. You might want to check it out as it has quite a few names listed on it. They list Anthony Sr. being born in 1809 Kentucky and Mary B. Dearing Hickman being born in 1813 Kentucky. Kene G.
