Tadlock Family Genealogy Forum

John, my line of Tadlock came from Scotland. When I was little, I was told it meant "little lake" or "two lakes". I have been unable to trace the origin of Tadlock on my side. Tadlock isn't even Scottish surname so I am wondering if it could have come from "Tulloch". From what I understand, many highlanders from Scotland that arrived in North Carolina spoke Gaelic. Here's what I found from ancestry.com:
Tulloch
Scottish: habitational name from a place near Dingwall on the Firth of Cromarty, named with Gaelic tulach 'hillock', 'mound', or from any various other minor places named with this element.
I see "hillock" as a clue here. My grandfather Tadlock and grandmother Andrews met when they were toddlers in the South of USA and eventually married which lasted for over 60 years. The family Andrews also came from Scotland. Both Andrews and Tulloch belonged to Ross Clan in Scotland so it would make sense to me that my line Tadlock came from "Tulloch" although I still haven't found the proof of it. It seems to me that "Tadlock" is mystery! I am still digging, tho.
