From the above, it would appear that Edward Tagaber and Dorothy, who were married by 1558,and whose son was baptized on 8/17/1559 are the firts of the family of whom there is any record.
In 1649 Cromwell came to Ireland and it seems likely that the ancestors of the Irish branch of the family were in his army, probably in the Regiment of Col. Solomon Richards, who became Governor of the Town of Wexford in 1650. Two facts point to this:
the name does not appear in Irish records prior to 1650, and "Tackaberrys" were yeoman farmers in Wexford where the native Irish had been dispossessed of their lands, and the lands were turned over to Cromwellian soldiers. All over Ireland Tackaberry is known as a Wexford name.
