Hi Hilary,
One thing you might find humorous is something I just noticed last night in my Grandfather's book. My grandfather and grandmother are in a picture with a group of other young adults (two teams of horses coming back from an outing to Tamarack Island). However, the interesting thing is that neither is with the other! My grandfather has one foot up on the front of one wagon and it looks like he has his arm behind another young woman beside him and my grandmother is in the other wagon. The lady who my grandfather appears to have his arm around is Ida Tackaberry!!
I remember that picture and looked it up to see if your great-grandmother and her sister were in it (as I knew they were about the same age as my grandparents - my grandmother was born in 1880 and grandfather in 1885) not especting to see that!! My mother did make a sardonic comment once about him being with another young woman at that time and in that picture (I think she even commented on him having his arm around her - I wonder if that was a bit daring in Victorian Canada at the time.). I suppose it shouldn't be surprising as this type of thing does happen from time to time even back in the early 1900's (although it is a bit hard conceptually to think of one's grandfather young and being with (dare we say - dating!?) anyone but grandma)!
Also, it does mention that a Jane Tackaberry is in the picture. Is that another name they used for Jenny?I think you said or I read somewhere that her full birth name was Margaret Jane - but perhaps I have this incorrect?Perhaps you can tell by looking at the picture.
Anyway, I found this humorous and something I didn't know or didn't notice before.
Thanks,
Brian
