Henry Tackaberry of Aurora, Erie Cty, New York
I've been researching Henry Tackabury/Tackbury/Tackeberry in Aurora, Erie County New York (my great, great grandfather).Like a few other people on this forum I've been having trouble connecting him to either the Madison Cty Tackaberrys or the Tackaberry's from Ontario.Looking at the records, however, I've found someobvious mistake that might shed some light on things.
I remember my grandmother (wife of Clayton Tackbary) telling me that the family had come "down through Ontario" and that it used to be spelled with a "th".I think this is probably accurate. A large part of the family stayed within 20 miles of Henry's first address when he moved there around 1860. The consensus of this group was that the family came via Ontario.
Henry and his family first appears on the 1860 federal census, listed as what looks like "Tuckerbry". Henry and his wife, Bridget Jane, were both born in Ireland (he in 1824, she in 1831).Their oldest son, William, was born in 1853/4 in Upper Canada (aka- Ontario).Their next oldest child, Jane, was born in New York in 1856.So they entered the USA somtime between 1853 and 1856.
Checking around online, the records that caught my attention concerned a Henry Mark Thackaberry.He was born in Ireland in 1824 and immigrated circa 1851.He had a son named William, born in Canada in 1854 (unfortunately, I haven't been able to find William's birth certificate).
The other Henry Tackaberry/Thackaberry immigrant who was born in 1824 immigrated to Pennsylvania. He stayed in the Chester area for a couple years and then moved to Bureau County, Illinois. There was an extremely informative obituary for this fellow in the Tampico Tornado (see http://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/articles/article/1323792/37438.htmhttp://www.tampicohistoricalsociety.citymax.com/articles/article/1323792/37438.htm ) which eliminates him as a possibility for the Aurora NY Henry. (the Madison County Tackaberry's come from this Pennsylvania line ).
The ancestry.com records on Henry Mark of Ontario say that he was married to someone named "Mary" and died in Canada in 1857.This would seem to rule him out. However, the record also says he was born in Ireland in 1728. I wondered if this was a typo and followed the records back to Ireland.There WAS a Henry Mark Thackaberry, son of Robert and Ann Thackaberry, born in 1728.But a number of things on his records don't make sense.
The LDS files and the ancestry.com files say Henry Mark Thackaberry who died in Canada in 1857, was born in Ireland in 1728.He was the son of Robert Thackaberry and Ann.His wife was a woman named Mary who was born in 1788 and died in 1878. He had at least 5 children: Ann (b. 1817), Jane (b. 1819), Nathaniel (b. 1821), John (b. 1833) and William (born 1854).
It is obvious that there's an error here.I believe that parts of three different Henry Tackaberry's have been pulled together to create a person that never existed.This fellow's presence is what negates the possibility that Henry Tackberry from Aurora New York is the Henry Mark Thackaberry who immigrated to Ontario in 1851.
----------------------------------
A few ideas:
HenryMark (1728-1857) is a composit of three people:
One was born in 1728, son of Robert and Ann Thackaberry.
One of their descendants was born sometime around 1780. He was the one who married Mary (who was born in 1788). They gave birth to Ann (b. 1817), Jane (b. 1819), Nathaniel (b. 1821), and John (b. 1833). Mary probably did not give birth to William in 1854, when she would have been 66 yrs old.William was a grandson. However, they could have had a son named Henry Mark, after his dad, who was born in 1824. Their other kids were born between 1817 and 1833. Regarding the death date, here's a record for a Henry Thackaberry who died in Millbrush, Kildare, Ireland in 1875, and this record probably refers to Mary's husband.She died in the same place 3 years later.
The Henry Mark who was born in 1824 emmigrated to Canada c. 1850. His lineage would be
Robert Thackaberry-->Henry Mark b. 1728 --> Henry Mark 178?-1875.
He had a son named William, born in 1854 in Ontario. I don't think the Henry who died in Canada in 1857 was part of this line at all.Henry died sometime around 1890 in Aurora, Erie County, NY.

Does anyone out there have opinions about this (aside from the opinion that it's horrendously complicated)?
Does anyone have data that pertains to this part of the family?
