The following is a transcription of the obituary of Joseph Tackaberry, which appeared in the Lucknow Sentinel. Lucknow is on the border of Huron and Bruce Counties in western Ontario.
"At the residence of his daughter Mrs. William McDonald, on the second concession of Kinloss passed away on Monday the 26th of March [1910] Joseph Tackaberry aged 75 years 9 months.
"The subject of this sketch was born in the County of Wexford, Ireland in 1834. Leaving his native land in 1852 at the age of 18 years he came to Canada and settled in the township of Dumfries County of Wellington. In 1855 he moved to the township of Ashfield then a wilderness, and settled on the 7th Concession. In the year following he married Sarah Sherwood who predeceased him ten years last Christmas.
"Of the union were born two sons and five daughters all of whom are living with the exception of one son who died in infancy; Ben and Mrs. Robert Hasty of Crewe, Mrs. Wm. Matthews and Mrs. Hugh Shields of Dungannon, Mrs. John Armstrong of Port Albert and Mrs. W.J. McDonald of Kinloss with whom he went some ten years ago to reside.
"Mr Tackaberry was in politics a Conservative, in religion a Methodist constant in attendance at Church.
"During his life he made many and permanent friends. The floral tributes at his funeral were numerous and beautiful, one among them being a sheaf presented by Mr. T. C. Graham of Wingham. Appropiate services were conducted by Rev F. A. McLennan. At Dungannon the funeral was met by many of the old friends and neighbours of the deceased and the remains were there interred on Thurs. March 31st."
