My gg aunt (my gg gf's sister) Bridget Martin married Thomas Taaffe. Their daughter Ann emigrated to the US from Galway abt 1863 to NJ, where she married Thomas Folan. On their wedding license, their names are mispelled. I am assuming because either they could not spell or they spoke Gaelic and had thick brogues. Anyway on the certificate it's spelled Teft, so I'm assuming that instead of Taaffe with a long A, it was with a soft e sound.
