hello paul..there are many many taafe-taaffe and taffs' in the us. as far as i know for sure, my taafes' came to the us from sligo around 1750. peter is the earliest american first name i have found in my family and it is said he fought in the american revolution. in my family, the earliest spelling i have found is taaffe and became taafe. my great aunt catherine briget taafe was born in western pa around 1880.
