Hi Frank,
I have been reading your postings with considerable interest. Interesting to note the name Wilburn Walters m to Mary Sword...there was a Wilburn Waters who lived in SW VA and reportedly was his mother was half Indian.I am so sorry not to be able to quote the source. However, with a bit of time,I can check through my recordsif you feel that these surnames Walters and Waters might have beeninterchangable.
I have some very general information to share...William Wilburn settled into Giles, Va c 1780 and lived out his life in that county. Many of his descendants relocated to Russell Co VA and surrounding areas. And some of them later settled into eastern KY.
I noted on a tax record that his nearest neighbor in Giles VAwas a Ford family...
The Wilburns were also allied with the Owens families of Halifax, VA c 1750 and there were other Owen/Wilburn marriages that followed.
At any event, I have been studing the 1850 Pike co KY census records and can see that the Halls, Tacketts and Swords were allied families. And there was at least one if not more Wilburn connections in these families.
The Sword families were also allied in some fashion with the Osbornes who were allied with the Wilburns also...And the Brownings families and Wilburns also appear to be allied. And the Estes families fit in somewhere..I am light years away from making sense of all of my accumulated material, but although this is
Pretty general info,I know but I thought that you might find some of this of interest.Let me know.
Cheers,
