Hello!I admire your cemetery project, but cannot physically help (it is a long, long way from Spokane, WA!).But I do have a research question that perhaps you and other descendants of Benedict Swope can assist me with.
See, a Charles Swope married Ruth Wilds 23 March 1802 (or 1803?) in Garrard Co KY.Charles was the son of Benedict Swope, but I am unsure of which Benedict - Jr or Sr.
This Charles Swope died 1825 in Howard Co MO.For some strange reason, his wife is called Bertha or Burtha in the estate settlement.
There was a son, Charles Swope, born 1811 in KY, but was in MO by 1820.He was married 4 March 1837 in Howard Co MO to Malissa/Melissa Wilds, his first cousin. He died 5 November 1869, and is buried at Mount Pleasant Cemetery near New Franklin, Howard Co MO.
I am trying to establish which Benedict Swope was the father of the elder Charles Swope.I am also trying to determine how folks named George, Samuel, Jacob and David connected with this group. My mission has to do with determining the mother of Ruth Wilds Swope, and whether said mother was the same woman as the mother of Robert Wilds, my third great grandpa.
Ruth and Robert's father was John Wilds (often found as Wiles). My best clue as to the mother is that descendants of John Wiles were fond of naming daughters Jenetta, by any number of spellings.
